About the event
On Sunday, April 28, 2024, the Canadian Slovenian Historical Society held their annual luncheon
in Toronto at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church Hall. The mood was exiting and the Hall
was buzzing as guests mingled and reconnected with past acquaintances. Joining the luncheon
were the Slovenian Ambassador Andrej Rode and his wife Monika from Ottawa, Honorary
Counsel John Doma and his wife Margret and the Honourable Kinga Surma, Ontario MPP for
Etobicoke Central.
The final documentary of the trilogy, ‘Slovenian Exodus III: Coming to Canada’ was presented to
a capacity hall of over 300 people of all ages. Following the documentary, everyone who arrived
in the fifties, during the second wave of Slovenian immigrants, were asked to join in a group
picture.
After lunch, Mario Ulcar outlined how to navigate the website and mentioned that the
documentaries will always be available there. The Biography and Eulogy sections are updated
regularly. The video interview section is also always being updated regularly to include as many
interviews as possible in order to preserve the history of Canadian Slovenians.
Going forward, we will continue producing videos documenting the life of the immigrants as
they settled into a new country and began establishing Slovenian communities: churches,
organizations, summer camps, and successful businesses. We look forward to sharing these
with you.
